Mount Pleasant High School News and Announcements:

Announcement

We are officially changing our rehearsal schedule this week from 3:00-6:00 PM rehearsals to 3:30-6:30 PM rehearsals. However, there is one adjustment for this coming Monday (9/8/08). Percussion and Hornline Sectionals will be from 3:30-6:00 PM on Monday, September 8th due to Curriculum Night at Mount Pleasant Middle School which begins at 6:30 PM. I'm sorry if this is confusing. After Monday the 8th, every after school full ensemble rehearsal, every percussion sectional and every hornline sectional will run from 3:30-6:30 PM. Guard sectional rehearsals remain unchanged.

Other announcements:

Feed the band - Extra! This Saturday!

As Mr. T. discussed above, the kids will have a make up day this coming Saturday, to be followed by band rehearsal in the afternoon. With that in mind we're going to add a feed the band date. Rather than run everyone down for a group to come up with a meal, we're going to feed the kids pizza and we're looking for all of the parents to chip and to help cover expenses. If everyone would bring a few dollars to toss in the jar on Tuesday night, we should easily be able to cover the pizza, then Momma Hicks will take coordinate the pizza retrieval and dispersion from there.

Water Bottles and Towels

Each one of you signed a contract that stated that you would be prepared for each rehearsal with all materials present. We have had a problem with people remembering their water bottles and towels. If you want to trash your own instruments, fine. However, many of you play on instruments that belong to MPHS and I will not have them laying on the dirt. Fix this. In regards to water bottles: we will run one lap per student who does not have a water bottle after any given rehearsal. This could end up being several miles. Take care of your responsibilities. These are things that we do not need to waste time worrying about. Be prepared, be early and make no excuses. Failure is not an option.

Rehearsal Duties this Week

Water - Brass

Stands and Chairs - Flutes

Sweep/Vacuum and Trash - Clarinets

Field Sweep and Percussion Assistance - Saxes

This Past Friday

Friday’s performance was not poor. However, I know that you believe that it is not indicative of the performance level that you expect from yourselves. We’ve got two weeks until we’re on the field at our next football game, and three weeks until the Cabarrus County Preview. It’s time to go to the next level.

Band Booster Meeting Next Tuesday (9-2-08)

Monday is Labor Day and then Tuesday is our first official Band Booster meeting of the school year. We have much to discuss in the areas of Preview and Showcase. Other topics will include new equipment purchase, equipment transportation, fundraising and the up-coming Cabarrus County Fair.

Preview Update

Performance Order:

5:30 - A.L. Brown

6:00 - Central Cabarrus

6:30 - Concord

7:00 - Northwest Cabarrus

7:30 - Mount Pleasant

8:00 - Hickory Ridge

8:30 - J.M. Robinson

Private Lessons

I know that several students have asked about private lessons. Ron Brown will be teaching percussion lessons and Corey Gaston will be teaching trumpet lessons. I have people to recommend on other instruments as well if there is interest.

Fair Dates

We’ve got 4 dates to work at the fair; September 5, 6, 7 and 8. Contact Angela Woodard at booster.vice-president@mpband.org if you are interested in working. There are also sign-up sheets available in the band room.

Moe’s Night Out!!!

We’ve got a date for our Moe’s night out. September 4th will be our first of many nights out with the MP Band. 15% of sales will be donated to the band, so bring your whole family, homeowners association or church congregation. If you’ve never been to Moe’s, it’s like a Subway restaurant except instead of sandwiches; it’s burritos and tacos.

IMPORTANT!

In order for the band to get credit for your meal, you and your friends, family, etc, must print out and bring a copy of the Moe's flyer (linked below). Just click the link below, open the flyer in Adobe Reader and print about a million copies. Hand them out to everyone you see.

We've also included a link to the Moe's menu below, so you can get an idea of the good eats available.

Aluminum Can Collection

We're collecting and cashing in aluminum cans, to help raise money to help cover band expenses. With rising fuel prices we expect everything to cost more. Every little bit helps, so start collecting your aluminum now!

Kerry Harper will be picking up cans every other Thursday. Just bring your cans to the band room and load them up in Kerry's truck. Upcoming dates include:

September 11th

Feed the band:

Amanda Hicks is heading up the feed the band program this year. For those of you who may not know about the program, we feed the band before each football game and most contests. We help split the work and money by having everyone sign up to help feed the band at least one meal. Meals include purchasing stuff like pizza or subs or cooking baked potatoes and such. Each volunteer chips in to cover the cost for your meal, which ends up being a nominal donation.

We have several openings still and Amanda has setup an email address to use for communications and volunteering. Email mommahicksfeedstheband@yahoo.com if you can help.
